![]() ![]() I learned a bunch about tire compounds and proper PSI for ride comfort and handling during the two years I did this for a living. A tire's 'maximum inflation pressure' may be different than the assigned tire pressure used to rate the tire's 'maximum load.' For example, while a P-metric sized standard load tire's maximum load is rated at 35 psi, many P-metric sized standard load performance and touring tires are designed to contain up to 44 psi (and are branded on their. I used to install, mount and balance tires for a living before I became a computer geek for a living. There is less tire height to protect the rims when you hit something hard. But this also can come at a cost if you hit a deep pot hole. Which is why many have gone to 16” rims for better handling. The less sidewall height the less tire roll will be felt and the better handling. Roll under or tire roll is not much of an issue. Harder tire compounds will require a lower PSI to stick to the road and will have a better feel at lower PSI. I have to agree with his statements why because he is running sticky tires with a low mileage wear out. Rollunder was not an issue with 185/60-14 AVSi Yokos. I found 35 psi hot to work best on the track I started out with 35 cold, but the resulting understeer was holding me back by killing rotation under full throttle. More pressure may feel "racy," but delivers less grip-the extra steering effort is your tires doing their job. It depends on the specific tire and conditions of use, but most Miatas seem to work best at 28-30 psi all around. The recommended tire pressure is the pressure established by the manufacturer of your car as the optimal air pressure for your tires. I average 32 MPG on almost every tank of gas and have really never dropped below 30 MPG. I take the leasure ride home because I like the 15 to 20 MPH switch backs going up through the canyon opposed to the highway drive at a constant 65 to 70 MPH drive. It is not to stiff on the highway on my way to work and handles good going home climbing back up the mountain thru Deer Creek Canyon. I run 32 PSI all around so I get a mix with the highway verses mountain road ride commute I have. I have stock 14" steel rims on mine running the 185/60/14 HR harder rubber compound tires cheap ones at that the Warrior radials. Tire compound sticks you to road softer rubber tires with less of a wear milage rating will handle a lot better then harder rubber tires with a high milage rating. ![]() The tires will stick to road better with higher PSI until about 35 PSI after that you balloon the center of the tire on smaller rim sizes and tall sidewalls. Max Load 730 kg (1609 lbs) and 240 kPa (35 psi) Max Pressure Cold (Passenger Example) Indicates maximum load and maximum cold inflation pressure of the tire. The taller the tire side wall the less tire roll you will feel with higher PSI. ![]() Tire pressure has a lot to do with tire size of side wall height and the handling of the car on different road conditions. ![]()
